ABOUT THE CONCERT

Performed by the award-winning Resonance Ensemble, this concert showcases works by The Blacknificent 7, a dynamic network of trailblazing Black composers. The collective includes: Damien Geter, Jasmine Barnes, Jessie Montgomery, Shawn Okpebholo, Dave Ragland, Carlos Simon, and Joel Thompson.

The program will feature:

  • The world premiere of Seven Prayers: Hope for Everyone by four-time Emmy-nominated composer Dave Ragland, who will join us for a post-concert panel discussion.

  • The Oregon premiere of Damien Geter’s Cantata for a More Hopeful Tomorrow, featuring soprano Nicole Greenidge Joseph and Oregon Symphony principal cellist Nancy Ives.
